Don’t let sinus pain and pressure ruin your day. Know how to provide yourself with some relief.
Despite the welcome of warmer weather it still seems that you have managed to catch a cold. Maybe the cold has finally left but now you are dealing with the miserable sinus repercussions of facial pain and pressure. What a nuisance! If you are finding it difficult to find comfort, our Frederick and Hagerstown, MD, otolaryngologist, Dr. Kirby Scott, has some other ways to help relieve your discomfort.
Use a Humidifier: If you are dealing with a stuffed-up nose then you may be able to find some relief from a humidifier. Dry air can really do a number on your sinuses and make issues worse. By using a humidifier in your bedroom, you can help provide the moisture that your sinuses so desperately need and to help relieve sinus pressure. You can also take a steamy shower to help open up passages.
Try Warm Compresses: Just as taking a shower or sitting in a steam room can do wonders for your sinuses, so too can a warm, moist towel. If sinus pain and pressure is driving you crazy, dampen a washcloth with warm water and then apply the towel to these areas.
Consider a Nasal Spray: A lot of people find temporary relief from their mild-to-moderate sinus issues through over-the-counter medications and decongestants. Sometimes a saline spray is all you need to help clear out clogged nasal passageways to help you breathe better. Of course, it’s always a good idea to consult our Frederick and Hagerstown ENT doctor before taking a new medication.
Use a Neti Pot: This little nasal teapot can be a great way to provide someone with the relief they need. A saltwater mixture is placed into the pot. You’ll tilt your head back and pour this mixture into your nose. The solution will help to breakup mucus and improve stuffed-up noses. This is something you can do multiple times a day to help keep your sinuses clear.
